Whew. WordPress. I’ve made some feeble attempts to enter the world of WordPress in the past, but I often ended these endeavors feeling defeated and unintelligent.
Yet, millions of people use this resource on a regular basis, so why can’t I?
I would like to say that my choices were aesthetic, but for the most part, the decisions that I have made regarding my blog were based on ease of use more than any other factor. I knew that I wanted a single column, simple, classic blog layout, at least to start. I figure that simplicity is generally the best when you are lacking in skill. It took a lot of struggling through different themes until I found one that worked for the layout and feel that I was going for.
Then it was a matter of figuring out where to put what, how to tag and format it and make sure it still showed up. I’m still having troubles with my vision board post! How to get it to link to my Pinterest page without it showing up as a dead link? I don’t know, but I kind of like the fact that I have to put my problem solving hat on and really dig into what makes this site work, and how to work with it. For the most part I’ve been able to figure it out on my own, and some items have been even less helpful than figuring it out on my own. Coming up though, I’m sure I’ll need to spend some time on YouTube or on the WordPress Help page to figure everything out.
So far, my blog does not resemble my vision board. It is simplistic and a little tacky. But I am not embarrassed by and it and I do not hate it, so I feel that as my comfort with the website grows, so too will my confidence in the aesthetics of the blog. Looking forward to a lot of new knowledge becoming part of my online repertoire!
